SMILE: HER IDENTITY

It was a sunny day. The sun was making its way towards the western horizon for it has to let the moon sail through the sky afterward. I was moving as like the sun, I was moving towards my home, for letting the thoughts of the coming day sail across my mind. I had just been free from my work and for goodness it was a Friday, a weekend. Yeah, I was walking along the road and suddenly I felt a raindrop in my forehead. Oh my god, I felt lucky for the first raindrop falling in my forehead on a sunny day.  Oh yes, that was going to make my evening a good one. And later I realized it did.
As I was on my way feeling the tiny raindrops along with the warmth of the setting sun, I saw a girl. She was out from her house, spreading her hands out in the rain enjoying the raindrops more than I had. I couldn’t take my eyes off her. Her expressions were so overwhelming that I stopped to watch her. Sometimes she was spreading her arms and most of the time she was putting her hands on her shoulder as if someone was hugging her, she was hugging herself.
Drenched in the rain I was still looking at her when she caught me staring at her. Staring to a stranger drowned in her activities with the falling raindrops it somehow seemed as if I was spying her. I was exhausted with what I did and could do nothing other than a smile. And yes, it worked I got her smile back. She came nearer to me. Her black eyes and her long black hair, the tiny drops of water rolling down from them, that slimness of her body and her smile, a moment I can never forget in my life. I was in a situation where I could do nothing but stare. She moved her hands forward towards me. Shocked I forwarded my hands for a shake. That soft skin, which would have been even softer if the water hadn’t been there. She whispered her name ‘Sophiya’ and asked mine. I was stoned as like the Statue of Liberty; still and calm, I could not even say my name to her. She asked if we can play in the rain for some time. There was no point in me saying no. We held each other’s hands and stretched backward. That was the best feeling I have ever felt in my life.
It was just the day before as I was walking my way home, I heard someone yelling Hey! Hey. The voice sounded similar but I couldn’t figure it out. I turned back and looked at her but couldn’t recognize it. Then she uttered “it’s me Sophiya, you never said your name” with a smile in her cheek that enlightened her face and my heart. “oh you” I continued “since the day I saw you when I was 8, I started going in the rain, spreading my arms and hugging myself.” She again smiled and I knew that smile of hers will remain the same forever and ever and won’t be forgotten.
